Maxtor OneTouch 4 and Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus External Hard Drives (HDD) Review

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 is squarely aimed at PC or Mac home users who realize that they need an effective, safe storage solution for their digital memories. The OneTouch is available in three sizes; 750GB, 500GB and 250GB. Maxtor quote the 750GB version as being capable of storing 240, 000 digital images or 750 hours of video or 12,495 hours of music.

As well as functioning as an external hard drive (HDD), the Maxtor OneTouch 4 can also act as a networked media center as a backup for all digital media files from a home network. Maxtor provide two levels of security to protect from unauthorized access; Maxtor DrivePass and encryption.

Backup of your files can be as easy as pushing a button on the Maxtor OneTouch 4. Alternatively, the backup software can be configured to provide a regular schedule of automated backups.

The Maxtor OneTouch 4 has a USB 2.0 interface and is Plug and Play for instant use once connected to your PC.

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus

Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus is aimed at the business market and has all the features of the Maxtor OnTouch 4 with the addition of:

  • Maxtor SafetyDrill - a complete recovery software package for a PC hard drive’s contents in case of a system failure. It takes a snapshot of the entire contents of your HDD and in the event of disaster can be used to boot your system for a complete recovery (Windows only).
  • Dual Interface - USB 2.0 or FireWire 400
  • File Synchronization between computers
