The LCD screen is based on Epson’s new Photo Fine Ultra technology which has the world’s first four-color filter system of red, blue, emerald green and yellow green – an improvement over the standard three-color LCD technology. So, each pixel uses four sub-pixel colors to create required colors (as an artist mixes different colored paints) enabling a greater range of colors (gamut) to be reproduced. The P-5000 and P3000 are also the World’s first portable players to support the xvYCC video color space
In all, the LCD display can reproduce over 16.7 million colors producing richer images closer to real life in appearance as the larger gamut is closer to the gamut of colors the human eye can perceive. Both models support images taken in Adobe RGB with their wide color gamut capable of reproducing 88 percent of Adobe RGB color space.
The Epson P-5000 and P-3000 have 80GB and 40GB hard drives respectively for storing thousands of image files (JPEG, EXIF and select RAW files digital music (MP3, WMA, AAC and M4A files) and video (MPEG 1/2, MPEG4, H.264/AVC, WMV9, MJPEG and DivX). Users are able to zoom in and out of onscreen images - both JPEG and select RAW files (handy for digital SLR users). Epson’s new Link2 software provides a convenient automatic file conversion function for most music and movie formats, as well as the ability to build, edit and store music playlists.
A hi-speed USB 2.0 interface is included for quick file transfer to a computer. The contents of the viewer’s memory card, they can be backed up to ensure they are safe and distributed over a home or business network if a media server [LINK] is available.
The P-3000 and P-5000 are both Windows and Macintosh compatible and can also be connected to a TV for a much larger view.
For additional storage and easy transfer of files from cameras both units have two built-in slots for Compact Flash I/II and Secure Digital memory cards. Other cards can be supported using third-party adapters.
Conveniently, one can print photos directly to select printers supporting the PictBridge standard using the USB 2.0 connection.
