This network storage enclosure creates a central network point for backing up your valuable files. Data is kept safe through only giving access rights to specific users or groups. User and group access can be configured to access only assigned folders with either read or read/write permissions.
The D-Link DNS-323 is an embedded Linux device, with the drives formatted in EXT2 (NTFS and FAT32 not supported). However, the DNS-323 can automatically back up your valuable data regardless what operating system your personal computer runs (Windows, Mac, or Linux). For Windows users, the included feature-rich Memeo AutoBackup software is included for Windows users allowing them to create backup schedules and opt for real-time, full or incremental backups. Storage quotas can be set for specific users and groups. The included D-Link Easy Search Utility allows access to the DNS-323 from anywhere on the network.
The DNS-323 has four different HDD modes (Standard, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1) to balance data integrity, storage capacity and speed of access performance.
- Standard mode creates two separately accessible hard drives.
- JBOD is a linear combination of both HDD for maximum storage space efficiency.
- RAID 0 combines both drives in a ‘striped’ configuration, which provides the highest performance.
- RAID 1 sets up the HDD as mirrors of each other, for maximum data protection. In this mode, if one drives fails the other mirror copy unaffected HDD continues as a single drive until the failed drive is replaced.
D-Link have provided a suite of software tools for file sharing flexibility, including an FTP server, UPnP AV server, iTunes server and DHCP server. Additionally, the DNS-323 supports the latest BitTorrent software support for sharing of stored digital media from the Internet without the need for a dedicated PC. As well as downloading files via the built-in FTP server, the UPnP AV server allows you to stream photos, music, and videos to UPnP AV compatible network media players.
The DNS-323 can also provide network sharing of a printer via a USB print server port. The DNS-323 enclosure unit has a built-in cooling fan so it is not silent.
