Universe Point ION Monitored Backup Software Review

Universe Point’s ION backup software’s stand-out feature is that it is monitored backup software. Once installed and configured, your backups are monitored by Universe Point’s Monitoring Center. If a problem occurs with a scheduled backup a Universe Point technician will call and inform you of the problem. The logic behind providing a monitored backup service is Universe Point’s research indicating that 30% of small to medium business backup software users are unsure if their backup have been successful and can be used for data recovery. There are no privacy concerns as Universe Point only receives notification of unsuccessful backup and not actual data. Backup are also made to the location of your choice.

The software has a simple interface to guide users through a step by step process for producing an automatic backup schedule.

Other features of ION backup software are:

  • File Structure Preservation - files and folders look just like they do when you browse on your hard drive making locating a backed up file or folder simpler.
  • Operating System State can be saved
  • Site-to-Site Backups can be made
  • Full, Incremental, or Differential Backup options are available
  • Fully-featured Compression & 256-bit Encryption – includes password protection
  • Databases can be backed up

ION is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional (32-bit), and Windows Vista. Home, Home Office, Small Business and IT Professional versions of ION are available

Universe Point also have a combined hardware and software solution called ION BOX. It consists of a 500GB USB external hard drive preloaded with ION software. When connected with a USB cable a plug-and-play software install is automatically initiated. A years worth of monitoring is included.
