Iomega 500GB, 640GB, 750GB, 1TB and 1.5TB Desktop External Hard Drive (HDD) USB 2.0

Iomega’s Desktop external hard drive has a good range of sizes from 500GB through to a sizable 1.5TB. It has a slim form factor with dimensions of 8.75 x 4.75 x 1.375 inches. It comes with the latest USB 2.0 connector and is plug and play for hot swapping. In fact it comes pre-formatted for getting underway quickly.

With a 7200 RPM hard drive the Iomega Desktop HDD has a data transfer rate some 33 percent higher than a 5400 model. Western Digital have produced a detailed report on the benefits of a 7200 RPM HDD. Greater storage capacity or more frequent accesses make the higher speed more attractive.

A point to consider before purchasing the Iomega Desktop is that it does not come with a backup software package. To avoid the pain of data recovery automating your backup schedule is essential. If you are purchasing it for automated backup then you need to consider the cost of software if comparing it to a bundled package. Two automated backup management applications worth considering are Genie Backup Manager and NTI Backup Now.

The Iomega Desktop is compatible with Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher and Microsoft Windows Vista, 2000 Professional, XP Home and XP Professional
