The Western Digital Elements external hard disk drive (HDD) is the entry level model of the WD external desktop series. It has a USB 2.0 connection and is preformatted for immediate use. The WD Elements external HDD is PnP (Plug-n-Play) so there is no setup required. The Elements HDD has a compact form factor for the desktop and has a durable aluminum enclosure for extra data protection in case of accidents such as getting knocked onto the floor.

The WD Elements external HDD is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Mac OS 10.3+. There is no backup software provided so the options are to use what is available with your operating system or purchase dedicated software.
